Where’s the podcasts?
Well, I’ve been negligent in putting out a show lately. I just haven’t felt much like it since the holidays for some reason. I don’t know how I did it while I was working, but it just seems to be a whole lot of work even for a retiree. Read the rest of this entry »

Well, it’s a bit after Christmas, but the sentiments apply anyway. This is a YouTube music video of one of the greatest Christmas songs of all time…
Actually, I am just posting this to try out a feature in the latest version of PodPress, which I just installed. It is supposed to fix a couple of annoying bugs that I had been waiting patiently to see fixed. But they also claim to have added automatic YouTube play. If you see the video, it’s true!
Merry Christmas! It’s like a present from the guys at Mighty Seek!

Have you been following - or attending - the WBFO XPoNential Live at Allen Hall series?
I haven’t been to one yet, but I listened in to the first one online. You can hear them and all the WBFO XPoNential HD-2 programming on HD radio, or if you don’t have one of them yet (I don’t either) online.
One of the things they are using this new, additional programming is being used for is to play local music. The Live at Allen Hall series takes it even further, they’re not just playing local music, they are hosting it live. No lip service to local music with a Sunday-morning-when-no-one-listens-local-music-show, they’re going the full distance by holding a live, free concert and airing it live.
The list of upcoming shows should sound familiar to listeners of this podcast: Brian Wheat, Johnny Nobody, and Dee and the Housecats. Hopefully more will be scheduled after the holidays to continue the series.
Kudos to WBFO for going the extra mile to support local musicians.

I’ve been doing this podcast for two years now (That’s right, Podcast #1 with the Flyin’ Blind Blues Band was recorded within days of Thanksgiving 2005) and each year, I’ve put out a Christmas Podcast.
In the past, I’ve used podsafe music for those shows, but this year, I’d dearly love to do an all-local holiday podcast featuring our own musicians. So, I’m requesting submissions… Read the rest of this entry »

If you’ve ever been to Nietzsche’s on Allen Street, you’ve probably met him. The dapper gentleman at the door to the bar. No ordinary bouncer, in fact, he’s anything but a bouncer, he’s more a greeter.
Sure, he has to card anyone looking young enough to need it, but he always soft-pedals the job and prefers to meet everyone with a smile and handshake. If you’ve been there regularly, he’s just as likely to know you by name and always has a hug for the girls. The musicians always love him too: he’s guarding the jar with tips for the band and makes sure everyone knows it’s there. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m sitting here listening to some of the first field recordings I’ve made with a new recorder, the Zoom H2, and I’m really impressed. I’ve got it plugged into my KRK Studio monitors and it’s sounding awesome.
I ordered this thinking it would make a great little interview recorder instead of the Marantz PMD-660 I currently use. It’s small enough to fit into my camera bag and save carrying one more thing into a podcast session.
It arrived today after a several week wait. I ordered mine from BSW, who in all fairness, advised me that there would be a delay. It actually came earlier than I was expecting and caught me by surprise.
By coincidence, I had a podcast recording session scheduled for that evening, so I quickly played around and learned how to use it. It really wasn’t hard. I had the basics down before I even cracked the manual, it’s that easy. Read the rest of this entry »
