One of the bands I’m featuring out of the Buffalo Original Music Festival that we visited last show.
I’m keeping this show a bit shorter, just over half an hour. I think that might be a bit better. I know how busy we all are and asking for an hour to listen is a lot, even if it’s music you enjoy.
If Paige Wins is a three-member band from Buffalo NY that I think is pretty interesting. The band is Lauren Clifford on guitar and vocals, Michelle O’neil plays Bass, and Danny Gugino on drums.
We squeeze in 10 songs by 10 of the artists at the Buffalo Original Music Festival held at the Colden Country Inn on August 19th, 2007.
The event organizers invited me to attend and record the show. Of course, I jumped a the chance. It turned out to be a huge project, editing 13 bands recordings, and along with some other unrelated things, kept me from getting this podcast out to you until now. Read the rest of this entry »
Off The Cuff is a band that I came across almost by accident and couldn’t wait to see live. I literally went to the next show they had scheduled, which thankfully wasn’t too long of a wait.
An acoustic-guitar-based sound with rich harmonies, their sound is reminiscent of say Dave Matthews, yet not exactly. Like Matthews, they fill in the sound with a drummer and bass player to give a powerful group sound. To clinch the deal they throw in a great Sax player, who adds another dimension to the whole sound.
I’m not going to gush anymore, just listen to them in the podcast and go out and see them live.
(If you don’t read the whole article, you’ll miss two great videos!)
I’m glad to have had the opportunity to meet and record Lenny Revell. He’s now living in NYC, so chances to meet him here are scarce now.
I first heard of him through the Spy Guys Talent TV show. Rick Rhodes and Norm Skulski are two of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. Besides that, their goal, their passion is to help young talented people succeed. Their home-grown internet and cable show is fed by a series of talent searches they hold all over WNY. And they get a lot of talent. Read the rest of this entry »
Dee and the Housecats at The Sportsmens Tavern June 1, 2007
Wow, did I get carried away with this show. Where else can you hear 12 tracks and an interview in an hour?
I almost got confused and put this podcast out as number 62, but that was last weeks’ show number. I can’t believe there have been that many shows!
As I say in the podcast, I jumped at the chance to put out a podcast of The Housecats because it was time. It was actually overdue. Read the rest of this entry »
Johnny Nobody is the last of the three bands I met and recorded at the Tralf show on May 25th.
I had heard of them quite a while ago, and even met band member Andrew Vaeth, as part of The Old Sweethearts. But until this night I hadn’t seen them play.
In the band are Andrew, Colin Roberts and Jay White. I hate categorizing bands to any genre, especially as to me, they all blur the lines between styles at times and I don’t like to overthink it all. So to me a lot of bands are just “rock.” Johnny Nobody plays a harder rock than the Old Sweethearts, who are more to the country/americana side of things and there I go overthinking it all. Let’s just say that they were a good fit with Handsome Jack, who they followed.
Of course, the connection between all three bands this evening was they all have members from Lockport NY, my home. I didn’t know that until I got there, nor do I think it was set up that way - it wasn’t billed as “Lockport Night at the Tralf” or anything like that, but it was a cool coincidence and there were a lot of people there from that town.
