I received a press release recently for a special event celebrating the life and art of Mark Freeland. So in the spirit of that, I have no choice but to add my voice to those remembering him for the amazing talent he was.
“Mark was a genius…He was a musician, artist…he did everything”. I believe that this is how many people, including Mark, described him. Mark couldn’t be confined to one category when it comes to any of his art forms, be it his music, visual or performing art. To show respect for all of what Mark did you can’t fit it into one day or one event. So this time there will be bands at Nietzsche’s, art at Lagniappes, artwork and photographs at Space 224 and College Street Gallery and filming and video at Gallery 164.
What do you call an event that pays tribute to such an electric and eclectic man? – In honor of Mark Freeland, celebrating the anniversary of his beautiful birth into this world, we would like to pay him- “Electro-Respect”.
(Press release)
In the show:
Beer Makes You Smart (background under intro)
All The Things I Would Do For You
Do What You Do
All from Electrospective II – Play Loud
There will be a special show at Nietzsche’s (248 Allen St. Buffalo) on May 1 with several bands performing tributes to Mark. The Fems (unplugged), Peanut Brittle Satellite, Handsome Jack, The Found, Ed Koban, Lonesome Roads (with Bob Wieder of the Fems), David Kane, Mike Wagner, and The Cowboys of Scotland will play. There is a $5 cover.

Meet Eddie Cain Irvin. He’s doing something I’ve never heard of before – writing, recording and posting, complete with a video, one minute of original music every day for a year. And he’s from Buffalo.
You can follow his project and see what he comes up with daily at eddies1minute.com.
This podcast is a bit longer than I usually make the 2 Songs shows, but there’s a good reason – it includes an interview with Eddie.
The 2 Songs:
Malady (from his other webpage)
Save Me (from his MySpace page)
Plus about 15 audio tracks from his 1 minute videos in the background during the interview.
Check out his CD on iTunes.
We drop by the Central Park Grill for open mike night with host Fudge.
No links, I don’t know of a web site for either Fudge or CPG.
