What’s up?
Where’s the podcasts?
Well, I’ve been negligent in putting out a show lately. I just haven’t felt much like it since the holidays for some reason. I don’t know how I did it while I was working, but it just seems to be a whole lot of work even for a retiree.
I often do a lot of the final work on the show right on my kitchen table. That’s less than an ideal situation. First of all, I have to set everything up and take it down to work around the family dining.
On top of that, I tend to work when no one else is around the house so that it’s quiet. During the holidays, that was almost never. Even the late nights were busy with school out. (My wife worked for the school district and one son is a college student.)
I don’t have any back material for a full show anyway. I should be out there collecting more, and there have certainly been some great opportunities, but between finances being tight and $3.00+ a gallon gas, I just haven’t felt much like traveling to Buffalo that much. But it’s more than that. It’s just the winter blahs. I’ve even passed on a good band here in Lockport.
Now, things are looking up cash-flow-wise, but I’m in the middle of another demanding project - the High School Robotics Team I work as an advisor to. We’re in the midst of building this year’s robot and are working six days a week on it for the next five weeks. Not much time left for much else. Once again. I’m wondering how I did it while working. (The answer was, in part, vacation time!)
But I have been toying with an idea for another podcast about local music in a shorter format. I have quite a bit of material saved up for it. I won’t let the cat out of the bag on that just yet, but I think it will be a lot of fun when it gets going.
Anyway, a sure way to get the winter podcast blahs out and get excited about podcasting again is Podcamp Toronto. I’m planning on going again if money and schedule allow. Last year’s PCTO was a great event and I met a lot of interesting podcasters. I’d like to get back there again for the second edition.
The audio file in this post is a promo for Podcamp Toronto put together by Peter O’Connel of Audio O’Connell Voiceover Talent who was a guest speaker at last year’s Podcamp and incidentally, based in Buffalo! I enjoyed meeting him there. This year, he’s a proud sponsor of the “unconference.”
