I recorded the Buffalo Chips recently at their Fall Jam concert at the University of Buffalo Student Union on Nov. 17, 2007. I heard of the Chips not too long ago and thought they’d be a fresh, different sound for the podcast. I hope you enjoy their music as much as I did.
When you meet them, they’re just a bunch of your average college kids, casual, irreverent, always kidding around, and when they step on stage that really doesn’t change. They have as much fun there as anywhere. But when they sing, wow! This doesn’t just happen. A lot of hard work and practice must have gone on. Read the rest of this entry »

Have you been following - or attending - the WBFO XPoNential Live at Allen Hall series?
I haven’t been to one yet, but I listened in to the first one online. You can hear them and all the WBFO XPoNential HD-2 programming on HD radio, or if you don’t have one of them yet (I don’t either) online.
One of the things they are using this new, additional programming is being used for is to play local music. The Live at Allen Hall series takes it even further, they’re not just playing local music, they are hosting it live. No lip service to local music with a Sunday-morning-when-no-one-listens-local-music-show, they’re going the full distance by holding a live, free concert and airing it live.
The list of upcoming shows should sound familiar to listeners of this podcast: Brian Wheat, Johnny Nobody, and Dee and the Housecats. Hopefully more will be scheduled after the holidays to continue the series.
Kudos to WBFO for going the extra mile to support local musicians.

In the past, I’ve used podsafe music for those shows, but this year, I’d dearly love to do an all-local holiday podcast featuring our own musicians. So, I’m requesting submissions… Read the rest of this entry »
