BOM Festival
Noa Bursie at BOM Fest
I know a lot of people have been waiting for a podcast from the Buffalo Original Music Festival at Colden Country Inn. I’ve been working on the recordings, but have a lot more to do.
Picture eight hours of recording, some of it in 4 tracks, for about 15 bands. Plus several interviews. I’ve never undertaken such a large recording project as this. I’m about 2/3 of the way through the recordings for the rough editing. That is, I load the individual tracks into a project, set up some equalization and processing, time-shift the tracks so that the mikes out in the middle of the tent don’t make an echo, and mark song starts and endings. Once I’ve done that, whenever I need an individual song, I can mix it down to a single song file as I need it.
Once I got things started, I got into a groove and did quite a bit all at once. Since the setup didn’t change drastically from one set to the next, I knew what needed to be done for each one once I got going. It wasn’t without a few glitches, of course. As those who were there know, the generator stopped a couple times. During The Feast’s set, I seem to have lost the part before the generator quit, then after it got going again, there was no phantom power on some of my mikes, so all I had was the instruments, no vocals. And of course, in the no effect set it all happened again. I haven’t gotten to that yet.
But there is a lot of good material there too. The first thing I’ll do is put out a podcast with a track from each band/performer. Sort of a BOM Fest recap. Then I’ll get into the individual bands. Not all of them will get a podcast. Many have already been featured in my show, but those I promised will be done. They’re not studio recordings, it definitely sounds like it was recorded outdoors in a tent, but, it’s a podcast about live music, right. I think your patience will be rewarded!

Doc,
And what a mighty fine job you’ve done already. I can’t wait to see the finished project. What a memorable event BOM fest was…an eclectic blend of fantastic, on fire musicians who have at least one thing in common - a PASSION for music and performance. Thank you so much for capturing that. - Noa
