I was sitting at my computer updating the web calendar and my cell phone started buzzing. I looked at it and it said I had a text message. I don’t usually text much, so when I get one, it’s something unusual or spam. This time it was the unusual type.

One of the bands I’m featuring out of the Buffalo Original Music Festival that we visited last show.
I’m keeping this show a bit shorter, just over half an hour. I think that might be a bit better. I know how busy we all are and asking for an hour to listen is a lot, even if it’s music you enjoy.
If Paige Wins is a three-member band from Buffalo NY that I think is pretty interesting. The band is Lauren Clifford on guitar and vocals, Michelle O’neil plays Bass, and Danny Gugino on drums.
You’ll find more about If Paige Wins at their website: myspace.com/ifpaigewins

Finishing the season with a bang, Thursday at the Square this week will have one of this podcast’s favorite bands, Jackdaw, opening for the Dropkick Murphys. It should be a huge show. With the energy celtic-rock brings out in Buffalo, it could be a record-setter.
I’ll be there, taking pictures for Buffalo.com’s Spotted page (and probably a bunch of other Spotted interns as well.) Also, I expect to be working with Susan-Marie of This Is Not The Apple, another of the featured shows at Think Twice Radio.
As regular visitors to this site know, I’ve featured Jackdaw in two podcasts. Sue has interviewed them in a feature on her show as well as recent coverage of the South Buffalo Irish Feis in Cazenovia Park. If you’re not familiar with Jackdaw (shame on you!) that should give you plenty of ways to sample them and get in the mood.
The Dropkick Murphys are an internationally-known Celti/Punk/Rock act. Inspired in part by the sound of The Pogues, they in turn have inspired a number of others, such as Flogging Molly. Yet, the Murphys are one-of-a-kind, an original, and this is your chance to see them free in one of their semi-infrequent visits to Buffalo.
The weather should be seasonable, so come down and enjoy the show. Get Spotted, cheer on Jackdaw and show the Murphs Buffalo is a party town!

We squeeze in 10 songs by 10 of the artists at the Buffalo Original Music Festival held at the Colden Country Inn on August 19th, 2007.
The event organizers invited me to attend and record the show. Of course, I jumped a the chance. It turned out to be a huge project, editing 13 bands recordings, and along with some other unrelated things, kept me from getting this podcast out to you until now. Read the rest of this entry »

Another season of AllWNYRadio House Parties is now history. I’m proud to say I made all four this year.
Highlights were:
The Hoax was a hoax. No-show. Did they get lost? Break down on the road? Forget? No word. But the rest of the show was up to the job of making up for it. Serenity Falls played early and were great. Josh Smith the Rated-R Rock Star was back for an encore performance and was as sharp as ever. The guys from Fresh Guac were awesome and of course, our home-town favs Lowertown Trio rocked the House with a little help from Rick Rhodes of the Spy Guys TV.
The party went on well after dark. From what I hear, it went on well after I left too! Read the rest of this entry »

Noa Bursie at BOM Fest
I know a lot of people have been waiting for a podcast from the Buffalo Original Music Festival at Colden Country Inn. I’ve been working on the recordings, but have a lot more to do.
Picture eight hours of recording, some of it in 4 tracks, for about 15 bands. Plus several interviews. I’ve never undertaken such a large recording project as this. I’m about 2/3 of the way through the recordings for the rough editing. That is, I load the individual tracks into a project, set up some equalization and processing, time-shift the tracks so that the mikes out in the middle of the tent don’t make an echo, and mark song starts and endings. Once I’ve done that, whenever I need an individual song, I can mix it down to a single song file as I need it. Read the rest of this entry »
