Podcast 62 - Johnny Nobody
Johnny Nobody at the Tralf 5/25/2007
Johnny Nobody is the last of the three bands I met and recorded at the Tralf show on May 25th.
I had heard of them quite a while ago, and even met band member Andrew Vaeth, as part of The Old Sweethearts. But until this night I hadn’t seen them play.
In the band are Andrew, Colin Roberts and Jay White. I hate categorizing bands to any genre, especially as to me, they all blur the lines between styles at times and I don’t like to overthink it all. So to me a lot of bands are just “rock.” Johnny Nobody plays a harder rock than the Old Sweethearts, who are more to the country/americana side of things and there I go overthinking it all. Let’s just say that they were a good fit with Handsome Jack, who they followed.
Of course, the connection between all three bands this evening was they all have members from Lockport NY, my home. I didn’t know that until I got there, nor do I think it was set up that way - it wasn’t billed as “Lockport Night at the Tralf” or anything like that, but it was a cool coincidence and there were a lot of people there from that town.
I have no song titles at all, as they didn’t announce them during the set. But that has never stopped me before, so I’ll forge on and just play them anyway. And I have an interview as always.
As we heard in the interview, Johnny Nobody is about to release their debut CD, called “What It Feels Like Broke” - which I’m sure most musicians can relate to. They have a CD release party scheduled for July 14 at the Mohawk Place. They’ll be back there on August 30th for an after-the-square show with a band called The Very Knees. In between, they’re doing a lot of touring with shows all over the midwest and downstate. If you’re listening to this podcast from out of the Buffalo area, check their schedule, they may be playing near you.

The band is one of the Harvest Sum “collective.” The benefits of several bands working together shows when you start looking at their shows and realize they share tour bookings and contacts with out of town bands looking for bands to work with. many of the same names keep popping up and there’s definately a synergy at work. These guys have the right idea on how to get things working without selling their souls to the record labels.
All tracks recorded live at The Tralf Music Hall, Buffalo NY.
My thanks to all three bands at the Tralf show for letting me put a podcast together for their band. Doing three in a night is really a Godsend because it gives me three weeks of material with one trip out and one set-up. Thanks for your patience in waiting for the shows to come out. It was good having some needed time off with school out and a graduation in the family. (Congratulations Melissa - class of 2007!)
I spoke a bit in the show about The Heads, the Newfane High School kids who got into trouble for their impromptu rooftop concert at the school.
The Heads is Aaron Brown, Christopher Florio, Paul Giazzon and Jesse Jolley. The band doesn’t have a web site that I can find, but here are some links to articles about them:
Buffalo News
WLVL Radio Interview
Lockport Journal
(Note newspaper articles typically get archived after a certain time. If these links stop working, that is probably why.)
