Podcamp fallout

Brent and MikePhoto: Brent and Mike during the podcast recording session

I’m still coming down from the emotional high of Podcamp Toronto 2007 and meeting so many cool, like-minded podcasters.

So often, in the real world, mentioning my podcast gets either a blank look or the inevitable “what is a podcast” question. That wasn’t a problem this weekend. (Although there was a spirited discussion of what the minimum requirement for a file to be called a podcast on the third floor hallway during Sundays sessions. I hope the roaming video camera that caught most of it saved the file and it comes up on the archives.)

One of the things we learned this weekend - in one of the sessions on maximizing your podcast’s exposure in Google - was that links - in and out - are one of the main rating items. So, it was cool to see in my trackbacks today a couple podcasts link back to mine.

The first one (and another opportunity for a link to improve my rankings) was from Andrew at geek.farm.life who exchanged interviews with me. We were staying at the same hotel and first met Friday night at the pre-getogether and really hit it off. His podcast might seem to be “out there” and not of interest to you, but check it out anyway. I listened to one episode from my hotel room and it was very cool and really interesting. Anyway, he has an interview with me at the link above.

The other one, happened during the small hours of Sunday morning in the hotel room of Steve “Snowball” Saylor and Mike “Birdman” Dodd. Steve and Mike are broadcasting students at Niagara College on Ontario, not far across the border from WNY. They do a local on-air radio show, but have recently branched out into a podcast. It’s an off-the-wall anything goes talk format and very entertaining. Their hour-plus show recorded in the hotel room can be heard at the This Week In Geek site.

I’ll have a podcast (maybe two or three) based on my interviews and recordings at the podcamp soon. But if you aren’t already tired of the sound of my voice, these shows are two opportunities to hear me and maybe just find another podcast you like!

I’m so very glad you came, and thrilled to death with your contributions and overall greatness. I was really happy to see you were recording and covering the live acts. I will beg you for +nurse recordings, as Tim said you were covering them (He also apologized - kinda- on his blog for the band being a little off-weather for your interview).

Great to have you at the event. : )

HAHA I hope the interview was as awesome as I remember it being. Which is to say, I don’t remember much, and therefore we must’ve been a total joke!

It was a really good interview. Everyone had fun and I don’t think I’ll cut a thing. Who says interviews have to be all serious and dull! It was great! Hope to get it in a show soon.

    Hi Dr. Wu,

Not sure if you’re planning on playing our entire show. I would assume not. If that is the case, any way we can arrange to get a copy of the entire show?
