Podcast #31 - The Old Sweethearts

Podcast #13 - The Old Sweethearts.I recorded the Old Sweethearts show at the Mohawk Place the same night as I met The Vores.

Ever since I heard “Snare Drum Hearts” on their MySpace page, I have liked this band. Their sound is similar enough to other bands to be easy to get comfortable with, yet their sound is uniquely thier own. I’m thrilled to be able to put them in a podcast.

I also had a great time with the interview with Roger and Eric. It flowed naturally and we seemed to have a good time just talking about music in general. It was a late show - the interview took place at about 3AM - and they had played the night before in the Southern Tier and didn’t roll back into Buffalo until well into the daytime. Despite it all, they were a great interview. We talked about the music scene, their label, Harvest Sum Records, and some of the other bands they know, all in the back storage room amongst the empty beer bottles!

The Old Sweethearts are:

Roger Bryan - Vocals, Guitar
Mark Nosowicz - Vocals, Piano, Rhodes, Moog
Andrew Vaeth - Vocals, Bass Guitar
Jeff Pietrzak - Drums
Erik Roesser - Guitar

You can find them on the web at: http://www.harvestsum.com/tosh/
and make them your friends on MySpace at http://www.myspace.com/theoldsweethearts

Visit their label - Harvest Sum at http://www.harvestsum.com/

The Old Sweethearts will be one of the bands playing at the Griffis Sculpture Park concert this weekend at the sculpture park, just off Route 219 in Ashford Hollow NY. It’s a great place to see just for the sculpture and a worthy cause to support. The annual concert has historically always been a special show with some great, if not historic, lineups in the past. This year should be another great one! It’s well worth the drive and you may even catch some early leaf color.

Photos from the show at Mohawk Place can be seen here.

I apologize for the lateness of the podcast. I had meant to get it out last week, but it just didn’t work out. I had my surgery as planned. What I didn’t plan on was being so out of it for quite a while due to the pain and the painkillers (The drugs, not the band)

While I often felt good enough to get started on the mixing, I just couldn’t concentrate and usually ended up nodding off at the keyboard! So it came together really slowly and I finally finished it up tonight (5am because I couldn’t sleep) and will finally get it posted!

I still can’t talk very much. My throat is sore, but I’m starting to get back to semi-normal food and the Doctor was pleased with my progress today. I’ve got a couple more weeks off before I can return to work, so I hope to get a couple more shows out in the meantime. Hopefully, my voice will hold up or else you’ll hear more from Carol and Mary and the other robots!
