Podcast #18: Tom Stahl and the Dangerfields live at Broadway Joes

We continue to squeeze more songs into an hour than will fit! Recorded at Broadway Joes, April 14, 2006.

After Greg Klyma played, Tom Stahl and The Dangerfields (They get no respect) played.

Tom Stahl and the DangerfieldsOne of my favorite local bands, I have seen them play many times and have many of thier CDs, so I was happy to be able to do a podcast for them. I didn’t have any reservations about asking: I have spoken with Tom before and he’s always happy to oblige a fan. In fact, he’s so modest and unassuming, he seems like he’s just happy to be out playing in front of an audience and having a good time doing it. Read the rest of this entry »

Easter Weekend

Here’s wishing you a Happy Easter.

This weekend I recorded three shows for future podcasts. Each one came out great, good audio quality and interesting interviews.

It’s gonna take a while to edit all these, but I will release one at a time over the next next few weeks. You can look forward to…

Greg Klyma (at Broadway Joe’s)

Tom Stahl and the Dangerfields (also at Broadway Joe’s)

Redheaded Stepchild (at Nietzche’s)

That’s two former Buffalo acts that returned to their hometown and a hometown favorite! Can’t wait? Photos are up at my Opera Blog. The first of the three (I’ll keep you guessing which is first!) should be up by midweek.

Podcast #16 - Glengarry Bhoys

Miranda and Ewan of Glengarry BhoysThis week I travel to the Buffalo Icon to see the Glengarry Bhoys play.

I’ve never been to the Icon before, but it’s just down the street from the Mohawk Place, so it’s easy to find. I arrived early and got a parking spot in their lot. Read the rest of this entry »

Podcast #15: Red and Roxy

The first part of the podcast this week is the Red & Roxy show I caught last weekend with Flatbed at the Mohawk Place on March 25, 2006.

Red and Roxy at Mohawk PlaceRed & Roxy are an acoustic duo, a husband and wife team, that writes their own material. It’s a very folk-pop-ish style of music that’s really easy to listen to. They also have help on percussion in the form of a big bear of a man called Gentle Tom. He plays an assortment of instruments, from bongos, congas, djembe to bodhran. He was there when I came in the ‘Hawk, and was asking me about the podcast before I even got my bearings. I didn’t realise at the time he was part of the group, or I would have gotten to know him better. Read the rest of this entry »
