If there’s one thing I keep harping on…

it’s the state of dissarray the music industry is in. Music is alive and well, but it’s being ignored by the mainstream media who are still pushing their plastic manufactured Barbie-doll pop-tarts and Bad-boy rappers and telling us it’s music.

Podcast #11: Babik

This week, I bring you the long-awaited podcast featuring Gypsy-Swing band Babik recorded live at the Allen Street Hardware Cafe last January!

Peter Case on major record labels…

Buffalo-born guitarist, singer-songwriter, and former member of The Nerves and The Plimsouls, Peter Case defys categorization. He cites influences by almost every name in music you can think of. I found this in an interview from a year ago or so:

“I can’t stand the major labels, to tell you the truth. The major record companies have so many records that they don’t know what they have. No one returns your phone calls, so it virtually takes a miracle to contact someone there, and then they don’t get back to you when they say they will; it is a very difficult environment to work with. It is really hard; you get guys who try to tell you how to write songs. I’d rather deal with people who are interested in what I’m doing.”

Dee Adams @ Brewhaus CafeDee Adams is a singer-songwriter that has been compared to Bonnie Raitt, Edie Brickell, Jonatha Brooke, and Sheryl Crow

I met with Dee on several occasions, first at Merlin’s, then at The Brewhaus Cafe in Lockport, to record, as well as several chance meetings all over Buffalo. Dee is the hardest working musician in Buffalo. She’s plays more open mics and showcases as well as solo gigs and gigs with her band The Housecats than any other musician I know.
